Sunglasses in the Invisible Land of Ayscough

A terrible disease adversely affected the city. Everyone was in shock, and it caused shivers to run down their spines. The cars were nowhere to be seen, the doors were closed, and the windows were tightly shut. The once-bustling, hectic, and lively city is now so quiet that one could have heard a pin drop throughout the entire city. Our city, the Invisible Land of Ayscough, is being badly damaged by an infection that no one has seen in thousands of years.

It all started when a group of farmers turned their faces directly toward the sun in the midst of the day. One of the farmers, Rain, had to rub his eyes continuously for hours as they began turning red due to the sun's intense sunlight that day. Later, as the farmers began to rub their eyes until they turned red, the disease began to spread among them. A short while later, the other farmers and Rain all passed out in the middle of the field. They were taken to the hospital, but half of them, including Rain, couldn't make due to their eye infections. To end the disease from spreading, it was advised to everyone in the city to avoid eye contact. Nobody is courageous enough to leave their house as they are too terrified to move even a few feet away from it.

In the midst of the crisis, a brilliant optician named James came to the rescue by displaying his design to the public. He stated that it could be used to halt the spread of the disease. It was given the name "sunglasses" by him. It was first tested by doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals. It proved to be beneficial, as the number of deaths and infected people continues to decrease.

When the quarantine period is over, there is a difference between those who survived and those who did not. Everyone began to wear sunglasses everywhere they went, especially when the sun was shining brightly, in order to protect their eyes and prevent the disease from spreading so that everyone could live in peace. The sunglasses were available for purchase in a store, mall, or via an online shopping platform. "Pin! Pin! Pin!" The sound of the horn from the car behind jolted me out of my irrational imagination. How can I imagine sunglasses being invented in this manner back then?

Note: James Ayscough was the one who invented the first sunglasses in 1752.

  1. I like how your story does not need a complex plot to attract readers but it is still interesting to read. I wish I can read more stories from you as there's not many authors who could write such a simple story with this type of genre.

  2. A very simple story indeed! The flow and plot are not complicated at all. It is just that I think you should write more because I really want to read more about this story. It is a bit rushed. Nonetheless, I love it! Can't wait to read more stories from you. Good job!

  3. I love the fact that the infection revolves around sight, rather than taking the typical idea of COVID. I also like how you include a real fact about the invention of sunglasses in your writing. I learn new things because of that. One thing that will help in making the story better is by including more details.
